KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 — PAS today confirmed it has thrown its support behind the leadership of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad until the next general election. Its secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said in a statement after the party’s central committee meeting in Marang, that PAS had issued a document expressing the party’s commitment to Dr Mahathir.
steadyaku47 comment : For sure anything is possible in politics but the doings of Tun Mahathir surely trips the light fantastic! Think about it! PAS today confirmed it has thrown its support behind the leadership of Tun Mahathir….not behind Pakatan Harapan, but behind the leadership of Tun Mahathir. Last week we had seven MPs who left Umno last December, joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia…..and now, to all intents and purpose, so has PAS. Now that the floodgates have been opened, who else will join PPBM? Dalam masa terdekat PPBM shall rule the roost in Pakatan Harapan. Dalam masa terdekat will there be a need for PKR or for that matter DAP or anyone else, to be in Pakatan Harapan? Dalam masa terdekat would not PPBM be able to govern in its own right?
The noose tightens around Anwar Ibrahim’s neck. I for one will find it most satisfying to NOT hear anyone from PKR intone that as the biggest component in the Pakatan Harapan coalition, PKR should have this and PKR should have that. As the biggest component in the Pakatan Harapan coalition, Anwar Ibrahim should be the next prime minister and Rafizi the next Finance Minister! And I for one among the many, will sigh with relief that Malaysia will be spared the possibility of having Anwar Ibrahim and his band of “reformasi cadres” claim government in Putrajaya and then have them proceed to make government into PKR’s image…rife with factionalism, in fighting, vested interest and the rule of that mob from Segambut who thinks that money buys anything and everybody.
But then we also need to ask if what Tun Mahathir is now doing is what we want our leaders to do and to be in the Malaysia that we aspire to? What Tun Mahathir is doing is what he has always done when he is in government…..he does what he wants and he does so by eliminating any opposition to his rule….and by opposition I mean any opposition be it political or judicial. And what Mahathir will soon be will be the Mahathir of old….a dictator in everything but in name.
These are stark choices for us Malays to make for everywhere we turn, be it to Anwar, to Umno or PAS, what confronts us is Hobson choice. Take Tun Mahathir as he is or the alternative, Anwar, Umno or PAS, is really no choice for many of us. With that thought in my head, I must now to sleep as the time is now 4.41 am here in Melbourne and I can no longer think with the clarity I would need to continue writing…so until esok….good night or good morning!
